Description

Introduced in the mid 1950s, the Mercury was originally used as an interceptor, but was quickly retired as bomber capabilities rapidly outpaced its speed. However, the Mercury was reissued as a close support bomber in the late 1960s, and has been able to fulfill that role quite effectively. NATO designation FASTBACK.
